Shoutouts 🗣️

Another week, another milestone ✅ I am proud to share that the Down to Earth community has reached over 300 subscribers! I would say I’m in disbelief, but that wouldn’t be true. It doesn’t surprise me how many people want actionable ways to improve their lives. It feels pretty good to invest in yourself. We’re building a community all the while. Let’s keep the party going!

Imagine a futuristic version of Earth as viewed from space, where the planet resembles a 'galaxy brain'. The globe is intertwined with glowing neural networks, with nodes representing major cities connected by bright, pulsing light streaks. The neural network overlays the continents in a complex and intricate pattern, highlighting an advanced civilization's interconnectedness. The cities glow vibrantly against the dark backdrop of space, which is pitch black without any stars. This visualization combines the concept of a highly connected, intelligent planet with the aesthetic of a science fiction universe, emphasizing the idea of Earth as a living, thinking entity in the void of space. The overall impression is of a planet that has transcended traditional physical boundaries to become a beacon of connectivity and intelligence.

Big Shouts out to Rob Wright, Ellen Winston, Katherine Libonate, Reem Nasr, Timi Idowu, Aurelia Morabito for their continued support!   🌐

Simplicity, Good Faith, and Irrational Self-Belief: A Tribute to Bob Moore 👨🏼‍🌾

If you’re old-school like me and do your own grocery shopping, I’ll bet Bob’s Red Mill products have once caught your eye.

The packaging represents the organic and dependable products just right.

Portraying founder Bob Moore in all his Americana wholesomeness, the company’s slogan reads “To your good health”.

Bob's Red Mill | Whole Foods Market
Fueled by the belief in the value of a healthy diet, Bob’s Red Mill transformed from a tiny grain factory in Oregon to a global beacon of quality health food.

As Americans have pivoted away from processed foods over the last decade, more nutritious ones have taken over.

“I think that people who eat white flour, white rice, de-germinated corn — in other words, grains that have had part of their nutrients taken away — are coming up short,” Mr. Moore says to Oregon State University.

We must recognize how bleak the health-food landscape was in the 1970s. That’s when Mr. Moore decided to build a business on it.

“I began to look at people around the world with obesity and some of the problems that are kind of self-induced by the way we eat and what we don't eat.”

A noble cause, pressures of doubt still paced Mr. Moore’s efforts at every turn. Whole-grain wheat milling, a practice long forgotten, was anything but profitable.

Driven by an unwavering belief in his ideas, Moore tirelessly tracked down millstones from the 19th century and other necessary equipment just to get the business on its feet.

These trials were yet no match for principles of good faith. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” Mr. Moore, a devout Christian, cites as a key strategy for his success.

“I brought simplicity back to it; that's for sure.”

If the lightbulb hasn’t already lit up, the key here is that goodness wins. If the 1970s can produce a successful company built on virtues of quality, simplicity, and benevolence, best believe it can be replicated.

And the rest was history. Mr. Moore scaled his tiny business to a nine-figure mammoth of a company, resisting lucrative offers over the years from food giants to buy it.

He instead opted for an employee stock ownership plan, which now sees 100 percent of the company in the hands of its more than 700 employees.

Bob's Red Mill - Triple Win Advisory

Love, sharing, good faith, and great food. I believe that these values can track success in any realm.

Bob Moore passed away earlier this week at the age of 94.

His legacy lives on through the ethos of his company, a pioneer of true entrepreneurship motivated by principles of positivity.

Mr. Moore is survived by his three sons, Ken, Bob, Jr., and David; daughters-in-law Dora, Barbara, Ashleigh, and Terry; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

“That’s part of what cements your relationship with your people,” Mr. Moore says with certainty. “You go a little extra when you don't have to.”

🍋 Hydration Electrolyte Powder, Lemon Raspberry Hydration really is key! I now understand what it feels like to actually be hydrated, and I want you all to feel this as well. Hydration has been transformative for me. My brain works faster, my mood has improved and I just … FEEL better. The complexion of my skin is clear, and there’s less puffiness all around. Aside from the effects of the electrolytes, this powder tastes really good. That makes it easy to drink at least twice the amount of water than before. (Higher water intake is the cause of my improvement, not the powder alone! I want to make this clear.) As a high-performing athlete, it’s ironic that hydration slipped through the cracks. I’m sure other powders work just as fine by the way; there’s nothing super special about this one. The ingredients are solid, and there’s no sugar or calories. If you want my experience on what works, try this one out. Shout out to my guy Raf for the recommendation!

🦻🏽 Loop Earplugs Sleep is important to me, so I’m always finding new ways to improve it. Earplugs improve quality of sleep. Just think about it — less noise coming into the ear = less disruption. Less disruption leads to a deeper state of sleep. That leads to a more restful, recharged morning. It’s simple, and it works. So I’m all in. Within a week, I’ve noticed more focus, elevated mood, and a heightened sense of motivation. As a grumpy, slow starter in the mornings, blocking out the noise has been a saving grace.

🧅 Onions and Onion Powder Before 2017, onions topped my list of avoided foods. Once I tried them caramelized with mushrooms and peppers, everything changed. Now, I can’t get enough of them. Being nutrient-dense, AKA low in calories but high in vitamins, fiber, and minerals, onions are a delicious way to power up my meals and feel the positive effects afterward. Since they can be tricky to prepare, I’m recommending a powdered version. The robust flavor is my current obsession, meaning I’m putting it on everything, just to move on to something else next week. Breath mint recs coming soon …

Onions are so loaded with healthy properties that I feel compelled to list them below:

  • 🫁 Antioxidant Properties: They contain antioxidants such as quercetin, which help combat inflammation and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
  • 🫀Heart Health: Onions promote heart health by reducing blood pressure and improving cholesterol levels.
  • 🦵🏾Anti-inflammatory Effects: Their compounds help reduce inflammation, which can decrease the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer.
  • 🩸 Blood Sugar Regulation: Onions have been shown to help control blood sugar levels, making them beneficial for people with diabetes or at risk of developing diabetes.
  • 🦴 Bone Density: Some studies suggest that onions may boost bone density, which is crucial for preventing osteoporosis.
  • 🫃🏽 Digestive Health: The fiber in onions promotes good digestive health and helps prevent constipation.
  • ❎ Cancer Prevention: Certain compounds found in onions, such as sulfur compounds and flavonoid antioxidants, have been linked to a reduced risk of several types of cancer.

Embracing the "Two-Minute Rule" for Instant Productivity Boost 📓

Getting through each day is a process. Baby steps can buy your time back.

Did You Know? Overcoming procrastination and enhancing productivity can often be achieved through simple changes in how we manage tasks. One such strategy is the "Two-Minute Rule," a concept popularized by productivity expert David Allen in his book "Getting Things Done." The rule is straightforward but powerful: If a task takes less than two minutes to complete, do it immediately.

How to Implement the Two-Minute Rule:

  • Scan Your To-Do List: Look through your tasks for the day and identify any that can be completed in two minutes or less. This can include tasks like sending an email, making a quick phone call, or tidying your workspace.
  • 3, 2, 1…: Instead of putting it off, tackle these tasks immediately. The satisfaction of checking off several small tasks quickly can provide a motivational boost and set a positive tone for tackling larger projects.
  • Apply It to New Tasks: As new tasks come in, ask yourself if they can be done in two minutes. If yes, handle them right away rather than adding them to your to-do list.

The Benefit:

The Two-Minute Rule helps clear your mind and your to-do list of small tasks that can otherwise accumulate and become overwhelming. By dealing with these quick tasks promptly, you free up mental space and energy to focus on more significant, time-consuming tasks. Moreover, this practice can foster a sense of accomplishment and improve overall productivity by keeping you in a proactive mindset throughout the day.

Mindfulness Aspect:

Incorporating the Two-Minute Rule also encourages mindfulness by keeping you engaged in the present moment and action-oriented. It cultivates a habit of decisiveness and can reduce the stress associated with a cluttered task list.
